The Platform’s Cut
In other platforms, if you refer your friends, you may become their enemy but in ours, you both become close friends! “A friend in need is a friend indeed”

Lila stared at the withdrawal screen on InkwellPublish.Xyz, cursor hovering over the button. Eight percent. The fee blinked back at her like it always did for everyone else.
Her phone buzzed. It was Marcus.
“Just hit publish on your first piece,” he texted. “Use my link. Platform pays me a tiny cut from their side. Doesn’t touch what you earn.”
She clicked it. The dashboard refreshed. Same eight percent on the way out—still charged only when she withdrew, never on sales or tips. But under the fee line, a small note appeared: Referral active. Platform share allocated to referrer.
Marcus got one percent. Not from her balance. From the platform’s cut of the eight.
Three weeks later she cashed out. The eight percent came off the top exactly as advertised. Marcus’s share never appeared in her math. When she asked him about it, he just laughed.
“They take their eight either way,” he said. “If nobody sends you, they keep the whole thing. If I send you, they peel one percent off their own side and slide it to me. You still pay eight. I just get a thank-you from the house.”
Lila watched the confirmation email land. Eight percent gone. Full remaining balance in her account. Marcus’s one percent had already moved somewhere else—quietly, from the platform’s pocket, never from hers.
She sent the link to her sister before she even closed the tab.
